The Great War of 1914 to 1918 was the first of the two twentieth century wars that shook Europe to its foundations and created the modern world as we know it. This course will examine its origins, course and outcomes with the assistance of songs and music of the period, diaries, letters, and much rare film archive. Class participation is actively encouraged, especially reminiscences of friends and family who experienced this cataclysmic event.
